Eleanor C. "Sue" O' Brien

Eleanor C. (Gillette) "Sue" O'Brien, a resident of Goffstown, NH and formerly of Malden, passed away peacefully listening to her favorite Neil Diamond on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at age 88.

Lovingly known from an early age as "Sue," she was born on December 4, 1934 in Malden, a daughter of the late Everett Gillette and Eleanor (Gramstorff) Gillette. Raised in Malden, Sue resided in Malden most of her life. She graduated from Malden High School, married her husband the late Joseph C. O'Brien Jr., and settled to raise 7 children.

Sue enjoyed traveling, especially the White Mountains, and going to the Saugus Senior Center for line dancing and chatting with friends. She was an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Red Sox. She was also a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Above all, Sue was a loving family woman who cherished spending time with her many grandchildren.

She will be remembered as a woman full of life, a real "spitfire." She had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, and entertain her friends. Sue was very social, loved going to the North End, or taking the T to Fenway for a Sox game. A passionate music lover, she enjoyed dancing, and anything by Neil Diamond or Bruce Springsteen.

Sue was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. O'Brien. She leaves behind her children, Kathleen LaMae of Peabody, Susan O'Brien of Malden, Joanne and wife Cheryl Staff of Wells, ME, Diane Flannigan and husband Steve of Derry, NH, Pamela Harvey of Epping, NH, Michael O'Brien and wife Lydia of Biloxi, MS, and her grandchildren, Tony, Jason, Charlene, Shauna, Kelly, Joseph, Ryann, Alyssa, Nicholas, Madison, Hayden, and several great-grandchildren.

She is also predeceased by her son, James O'Brien, and granddaughters, Brittany and Kaitlyn.

The family would like to thank the caring staff, and Hospice staff at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home.
