Elinor G. Laudin, 91, a life long resident of Melrose, died Sunday morning July 29, 2007 in the Epoch Senior Healthcare of Melrose following a period of declining health.
Born Elinor Morton Giles on December 20, 1915 into a family with deep roots in New England history, she was the daughter of the late Claude W. Giles and Gertrude (Brown) Giles who had moved to Melrose from Maine in the early 1900's. Elinor was the dear sister of the late Estelle "Bea" Giles.
Elinor was raised in Melrose, graduating from Melrose High School in 1933. She was a secretary from 1960-1984 for the Melrose Public Schools.She retired as the secretary to the Director of Parent Pupil Services where she enjoyed every minute of her contacts with handicapped children and the opportunity to work with the professional staff that cared for them.After her retirement, Elinor and her late husband, Fred had many wonderful years visiting with their grandchildren on the West Coast or at home on Youle Street.
Elinor was also involved with community activities. She was a member and past president of the Melrose Mothers Club; a member of P.E.O Chapter W; the Melrose Arts and Crafts; Kappa Delta Psi of Melrose and a long time member of the First Congregational Church, Melrose.
Elinor reached the "golden years" with so many happy memories and such a tremendous feeling of gratitude for her many blessings. She was a great cook and a gracious hostess. Many will remember the toll house cookie jar that never emptied.
She was the loving wife of the late Fred W. Laudin with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.Elinor leaves a devoted daughter, Elizabeth Anne Laudin of Melrose, a wonderful caring son, Brooks A. Laudin and a perfect daughter in law, Jamie Laudin of Walnut Creek, CA. Elinor is survived by three delightful grandchildren, Jennifer B. Landgraf of Philadelphia, PA, James A. Laudin of Lafayette, CA. and John F.G. Laudin of Walnut Creek, CA.
