Elizabeth "Betty" (Bernard) Carey age 68, a retired legal secretary died at her North Reading home on Monday morning April 25,2005. Betty was born in Lawrence, MANovember 27, 1936, daughter of the late Elizabeth M.(Ferrier) Bernard and Frederick W. Bernard. As a child, Betty was raised in Lawrence and Andover and moved to Melrose graduating from Melrose High School in 1954. She had resided in North Reading for the past 4 years and was a former 25 year resident of Wakefield. For several years she was a legal secretary for Skulley and Snyder in Wakefield and also for Davis & Welch in Wakefield. For 26 years she was a Loan Officer at the Melrose Savings Bank(MassBank). Betty was the mother of J. Michael Carey and his wife, Liz of North Reading, Joanne E. Carey of North Reading, Virginia M. "Ginger" Lord and her husband Sean of Wilmington and the late James B. Carey.She was the sister of Ann F. Mahoney of Melrose, Janet S. Ray and Frederick W. Bernard both of FL and Andrew Bernard of Lynn.Grandmother of Shayne Gaffney of Salem, Jeff Carey and Ross Carey both of North Reading and Evan Lord and Zack Lord both of Wilmington. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE Friday May 6 at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday 4-8 PM. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
