Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" (Niles) Crane, a Lynnfield resident, formerly of Wakefield and Melrose, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Rosewood Nursing Rehabilitation Center in West Peabody.She was 94 years old.Mrs. Crane was born on October 21, 1915 in Swampscott, a daughter of the late Seymour M. Niles and Clara (MacKenzie) Niles.
Elizabeth or "Betty" as she was affectionately known was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1933.She attended Radcliffe College and graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School. She worked as a secretary for the Buffalo Forge Company of Melrose and Wakefield for many years.She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Girl Scouts, Melrose Republican Club, Community Associates, Melrose Women's Club, Melrose Camera Club, and the Investment Club.During her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, classical music, opera, theatre, swimming, gardening, quilting, knitting, reading, bridge, scrabble and cribbage.
Betty was the beloved wife of the late Walter H. Crane.Devoted mother of Nancy Schurian and her husband Herb of Melrose and Judy Graves and her husband Paul of West Chester, PA.Dear sister of Virginia Niles of Wakefield and the late Marjorie N. Heaton, Walter M. Niles, and Seymour "Bud" M. Niles. Cherished grandmother of Susan Dillon and her husband Pete of Topsfield, Bobby Schurian of Billerica, Cory Schurian and his wife Maré of Long Beach, CA, Michael Graves and his wife Suzanne of New York City, NY and Lisa Graves Courtines and her husband Laurent of New York City, NY.Loving great-grandmother of Mackenzie and Michaela Dillon, and twins, Hunter and Alexander Graves. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service at First Congregational Church, 121 W.
