Elizabeth T. "Betty" Sheedy, a resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at age 86.
Betty was born in Dorchester on May 10, 1938, one of five children of the late John and Elizabeth (Greene) Sheedy. Raised in Dorchester, Betty was a graduate of St. Gregory's Girl School and secretarial school. At the age of 20, she began her career at General Electric in Lynn where she worked for 35 years. Betty happily accepted early retirement at age 55, but continued her numerous friendships and connections from GE into retirement.
Betty was a strong minded, independent woman who enjoyed her life with family and friends. She found joy in travel including favorite destinations Europe, Israel, Egypt and the Caribbean. She was often organizing trips with friends for tours and vacations across the world. When at home, she enjoyed Boston sports as a season ticket holder for the Patriots and was a frequent attendee of Fenway Park for Red Sox games. An avid sports fan, she never hesitated to cheer on her favorite teams, regardless of the weather. She also loved playing golf throughout New England, and enjoyed her Stoneham bowling league for many years.
Known as "Aunt Betty" to her nieces and nephews, she loved gathering with family for any special event, birthday or holiday, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends for dinner parties at home.
Betty will be missed, but her strong will, dedication to family, and spirited nature will forever remain in the hearts and minds of her family. May she rest in peace.
Betty was the loving sister of Paul Sheedy and his late wife Eleanor of Stoughton, and the late Marie Woerner and her late husband Sam, the late Claire Cafasso and her late husband Carmine, the late John Sheedy and his late wife Alice. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Betty during Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Friday, March 14 from 10-11am, followed by her Funeral Service at 11am.
