Elizabeth "Betty" Stantial Conn
Elizabeth was born on April 1, 1923 in Worcester, one of five children of the late Clifford L. Wright and Mabel (Oldham) Wright.She was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School with the Class of 1941.
Elizabeth or "Betty" as she was affectionately known was an active member of the Melrose community.She worked at the polls during election season, and was a member of Phi Theta Xi Sorority, the Mother's Club, the Republican Club, and the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church. She was also a longtime volunteer for Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. After moving to Lynnfield, she became an active member of the Centre Congregational Church.
Above all else, Betty was a deeply devoted family woman.She will be forever remembered as the loving wife of Clayton E. Conn with whom she shared 28 years of marriage and the late Elliott L. Stantial with whom she shared 39 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Donald W. Stantial and his wife Sharlene of Melrose, Phillip T. Stantial of Jacksonville, FL, William D. Stantial and his wife Elizabeth of Beverly, Steven H. Stantial of Lewiston, ME, Cynthia S. D'Amato and her husband Vincent of Peabody and the late John E. Stantial. Loving step mother of Clayton H. Conn and his wife Peggy of West Barnstable and Laurence Conn and his wife Dottie of Stoneham.Dear sister of Janice Blanchard and her husband Donald of Melrose and the late Russell Wright, Marilyn Wright and Beverly Wright. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a service in honor and remembrance of Betty's life at Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St. Lynnfield on Wednesday, April 2, at 11 AM. Gifts in Betty's memory may be made to the Elliott Stantial Fund at the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund, PO Box 760695, Melrose, MA 02176 or to the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church 355 Franklin St. Melrose, MA 02176.
