Ellis A. Bemiss,
96, of Melrose, a retired sales consultant for Charles Scribner & Sons Publishers died at the Life Care Center in Stoneham on Wednesday morning August 11, 2004 after a brief illness. Mr. Bemiss was born and raised in Malden, son of the late Fred N. Bemiss and Bertha (Adams) Bemiss.
Ellis graduated from Malden High School and Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT, class of 1930 where he was captain of the Tennis Team.He was a Sales Consultant for 45 years with the Charles Scribner & Sons Publishing Company (Textbooks) He was a former Dean of the New England Bookmen's Association and a member of the Professional Bookmen's Association.Ellis was a long time member of the First Congregational Church, Melrose and a member of its Senior Men's Group.He also was a former member of the University Club of Boston and he loved to play tennis and squash.
Ellis was the husband of 67 years to Kathleen C. (Painter) Bemiss.Father of Geoffrey A. Bemiss and his wife Patricia of North Reading and Alan P. Bemiss and his wife Barbara of Melrose. Grandfather of Geoffrey A. Bemiss II of North Reading, Melissa H. Ziegler ofFront Royal, VA,A. Scott Bemiss of Bedford, NH,Brian K. Bemiss of Danvers and Philip M. Bemiss of Atlanta, GA.Also survived by 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service at the First Congregational Church, 121 West Foster St., Melrose, Saturday August 14 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St. MELROSE Friday 4-8 PM. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St. Melrose, MA.
