Emilie P. (Pepper) Carpenter, longtime resident of Winchester, passed away peacefully at Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.She was 99.

Emilie was born and raised in Melrose.She is the daughter of the late Chester L. and Flora M. (Gaillac) Pepper.She graduated from Melrose High School in 1937, and Bradford College in 1939.She married her husband Windsor in 1945 at the end of WWII where he served as an Army Officer in the Pacific Theater.

A part of the "Greatest Generation", Emilie worked during the war as a "Rosie the Riveter" at the General Electric plant in Everett.

Emilie and Windsor lived in Winchester for over 60 years and enjoyed spending summers with their family at their summer cottage in Ipswich.

Besides her family, her greatest joys were traveling with Windsor to Europe, her gardens, genealogy, and trips to the beaches of Ipswich, Plum Island, and New Hampshire.She was a proud member of the Lexington chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

More recently, Emilie moved for health issues to the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester where she received exceptional care, and there she could enjoy the company of her family and friends.

Emilie is the beloved wife of the late Windsor S. Carpenter with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Stephen W. Carpenter of Winchester, Wayne L. Carpenter and his wife Ann of Nashua, NH., and David M. Carpenter and his Fiancée Mary Perkins of Salem, NH. Cherished grandmother of Lauren E. Carpenter of Medford.

Private family services will be held in the summer.

Donations in Emilie's memory may be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution, 1776 D St. NW, Washington D.C., 20006.
