Mrs. Ernestine "Ernie" (Nicolini) Parro, a longtime resident of Melrose, died suddenly on Monday morning, September 28, 2009 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 83 years old.Mrs. Parro was born on September 12, 1926, a daughter of the late Lawrence M. Nicolini and Rebecca (Brady) Nicolini.Ernestine or "Ernie" as she was affectionately known was born and raised in Revere, and graduated from Revere High School.She was a supervisor for the Registry of Motor Vehicles for 40 years.A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Revere, Ernie sang in the notable choir in the Beachmont church for many years. While a young woman, her voice was recognized professionally when she was featured on the radio. She later gifted family and friends with her talent particularly at family weddings. She spent each summer at the much-loved family cottage on Balch Lake in East Wakefield, New Hampshire where she cared for her nieces and nephews. Aunt "Dernie" was known as the family matriarch and provided everyone with her love and sustenance. She cooked large Italian Sunday dinners at the Lake, a tradition that lives on. Ernie was the beloved wife of Dominic "Buddy" Parro with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.Dear sister of Lawrence Nicolini of Danvers, Florence Boudreau of Nashua, NH, Paula DeCain of Revere and the late Phyllis Chaffee, John Nicolini and Constance Simonson.Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, niece and nephew in laws and great grand nieces all of whom lovingly considered "Aunt Dernie" as their other mother.

Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Friday, October 2 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in honor and remembrance of Ernie's life in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
