Mrs. Eva (Moore) Abbot, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at the age of 95.
Eva was born on September 11, 1918 in New York City, the daughter of the late Perry N. Moore and Genevieve (McAuliffe) Moore.She was raised and educated in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.On May 24, 1942, she married the late Theodore M. Abbot and they lived in Chicago, Illinois for several years before settling in Melrose to raise a family in 1957.
Eva filled her life with a deep devotion to her faith and the Church of the Incarnation.She lived her faith daily and often served as a Eucharistic minister.She was a family woman, with strong values and loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other interests that brought her much happiness were playing golf at Bellevue Golf Club during the summer months, cooking for family and friends, and weekly games of bridge with her dearest friends.
Eva was the beloved wife of the late Theodore M. Abbot with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Genevieve A. McNamara and her husband Dr. Frank McNamara of Rockport, Susan A. Powers and her husband Ody of Saugus, and Philip A. Abbot and his wife Cathy of Lexington. Cherished grandmother of Elizabeth Liwo of Melrose, Kathleen Liakos of Wakefield, Christopher McNamara of Wakefield, Daniel Powers of Parlin, NJ, Anne Marie Powers of Medford, Ted Abbot of New York City, Megan Abbot of Washington, DC, and Carolyn Abbot of Lexington.Loving great-grandmother of Brian Liwo, David Likos, Madeline Likos, and Christopher McNamara.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Eva's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, January 29 from 4:00-8:00PM, and again on Thursday morning at 9:00 AM before leaving in procession to the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.Gifts in Eva's memory may be made to Hallmark Health VNA and Hospice, 178 Savin St., Suite 300, Malden, MA 02148.
