Mrs. Florence L. (Story) Gwynn, a Haverhill resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at EPOCH Senior Healthcare of Melrose, at age 94.
Florence was born on March 10, 1919 in Everett, one of four children of the late Anna (MacFadgen) and Arthur Story.She was raised and educated in Cambridge and graduated from the Seaside Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in California.Florence worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 30 years at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in California.After returning to her Massachusetts roots, Florence settled in Haverhill where she was a longtime member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church.
Florence was a woman of strong faith, and supported her Church throughout her 40 years of membership.With a strong desire to help others, she served as a Nurse every summer at the Salvation Army's High Peak Camp in Colorado.
Florence was an independent and strong woman who led a simple life that brought her much joy.She loved spending time with her siblings and their families, and looked forward to yearly family reunions in California. She enjoyed travelling throughout the world, and had a great fondness for animals, especially her many beloved dogs.Later in life, she became an avid reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and word search.She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, and love for her family.
Florence was the devoted sister of the late Elinor Beaudet, Phillip Story, and Edmund Story. Beloved aunt of Robert Beaudet and his wife Nancy of Melrose, Roger Beaudet and his wife Karen of Salem, NH, Rev. Russell Beaudet and his wife Rebecca of Gahanna, OH, Don Beaudet of Malden, Jeanne Beaudet and her late husband Don of Everett, Bruce Beaudet and his wife Karen of Canada, Lynne Walraven and her husband Orville of OK, Paul Storey and his wife Melissa of WV, Arthur Storey of CO, Eunice Lucas and her husband Barry of Idaho, Millie Bearchell and her husband Brian of CA, Beverly Storey Conner and her husband Grant of Washington, Robert Storey and his wife Christa of CA, Nancy Pack and her husband Steve of CA, and the late Phillip Storey, Jr. and Edmund Storey, Jr. Loving cousin of Richard "Bud" Rowland of Woburn. Also survived by many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Florence's life for her Funeral Service celebrated at the Pilgrim Holiness Church, 400 Main St., Haverhill on Monday, March 10 at 10 AM. Interment in Locust Grove Cemetery, Rockport.
