Florence I. (Stahle) Soldan, resident of Bedford, and formerly long-time resident of Burlington, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022 with her family by her side. She was 97.
Born in Lawrence on March 15, 1925, Florence was one of two children of the late Carl M. and Yvonne M. (née Boucher) Stahle. She grew up in Lawrence and Newport, Rhode Island. She graduated from William Rogers High School. She also spent time living in Everett in her younger years.
Florence graduated from the University of Maine, Orono with her nursing degree. She enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a nurse during the Korean war. She was honorably discharged in 1953 attaining the rank of Lieutenant (JG).
After her discharge, Florence worked at a couple of different hospitals with most of her time spent at New England Memorial Hospital, retiring at age 72. She worked for the last 25 years of her career in the Maternity Ward as a Charge and NICU nurse, but what she loved most was interacting one-on-one with her patients.
While Florence enjoyed the nursing profession, her first love was her family. She was exceptionally active in their lives. When her children were younger, she and the kids would go on yearly adventures, sometimes across the country making numerous stops to go camping and hiking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family on Cape Cod, going on trips with her friends, going to Annapolis Maryland and Marco Island Florida to visit her brother and his family.
Florence was a positive light who was full of love and warmth for all. She loved everyone and her presence will be missed by all fortunate enough to have her in their life.
Florence was the devoted mother of Harvey M. (Gary) Soldan II of Glendora, CA, Priscilla A. (Mark) Scott of Andover, and Scott A. (Monica) Soldan of Bedford. Loving sister of the late Carl (late Catherine) Stahle. Cherished grandmother of Zachary (Sara), Jonathan, Theresa, Joshua, and Alexandra. Special Aunt to her nieces and nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Florence’s life at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose (meet inside Sylvan St. entrance) on Monday, November 28 for her Graveside Funeral Service celebrated at 10am.
Contributions in Florence’s memory can be made to the ALS Association Massachusetts Chapter, 200 Friedberg Parkway, Suite 1000, Westborough, MA 01581.
