Frank W. Carroll

Frank W. Carroll, a resident of Wakefield and formerly longtime of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Benchmark Senior Living in Woburn. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Carroll was born on November 18, 1944 in Malden, one of three children of the late Francis Carroll and Gladys (Leet) Carroll.  He was raised in Melrose where he graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1963.  He then served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served 2 separate enlistments, and after 22 years dedicated to his country, he retired to Venice, FL. With his lifelong love for cooking, Frank worked in the kitchen at the Sarasota County Jail for several years. Always busy, Frank also served as a cook and substitute teacher at the local high school and volunteered with AARP doing taxes.

In 1989, Frank moved back to Massachusetts. He attended Bunker Hill Community College, received a scholarship to UMass Amherst as a full-time student, and graduated with honors at the age of 58. He then worked at MITRE Corporation for 7 years before retiring again. While residing in Lexington, he enjoyed spending the winters in Venice, FL with Jean where he finally really enjoyed the Florida life as a full time retiree. When in Florida, he loved sailing his catamaran, and canoeing whenever he could.

In his free time, Frank loved visiting the casinos, playing poker, and visiting the Wakefield Senior Center. Frank will be deeply missed, but his endearing kindness, respect for others, and genuine spirit will be forever remembered.

Frank leaves behind his companion Jean Mead of Wakefield and his son Jason Chase of Michigan and two grandchildren.  He also leaves two cousins Linda Wesley of Ayer and Mary Kellerman of Billerica and many nieces, nephews and friends. Frank was also the brother of the late Joanne Mullins and Robert Carroll.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Frank’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, Melrose, on Friday, May 13 from 9-11am, followed by his Funeral Service at 11am. Interment with military honors by the US Air Force at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
