Mr. Frank R. Winsor, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, at the age of 84.
Mr. Winsor was born on July 19, 1927 in Everett, one of seven children of the late Edward T. Winsor and Mary L. (Rowe) Winsor.He was raised and educated in Everett where he graduated with the Class of 1946 from Everett High School.Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.He worked for Esso in Everett for 17 years and then for 30 years for M.I.T in Cambridge.After 30 dedicated years at the University, he retired as the Director of Campus Activities.
For over 40 years, Frank enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesauke where he owned a summer cottage in Diamond View, Gilford, NH.During the winter months, Frank lived in Safety Harbor, Florida at his home in Briar Creek. Frank was an avid boater, golfer and loved college football.Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frank was the beloved husband of Mary (Ciovacco) Winsor and the late June (Melvin) Winsor.Devoted father of Debra A. Zanotti and her husband Paul of Wakefield, Mark E. Winsor of Warren, RI, Kenneth F. Winsor and his wife Deborah of Little Compton, RI, and Brian C. Winsor of Lusby, MD.Former father-in-law of Lisa E. Winsor of Wakefield, and Nancy Winsor of Middletown, RI.Also Lisa Mediano of Medford, close friend of Mark Winsor.Stepfather of Joseph W. Maguire and his wife Suzanne of Canton.Caring brother of the late Florence Homer, John Winsor, Kay Peddle, Edward Winsor, George Winsor and Marjorie Hunt.Cherished grandfather of Leah Harrington and her husband Stephen, Laura A. Zanotti, Alaina Zanotti, Michael G. Winsor, Thomas G. Winsor, and Kortnee McCarthy.Loving great-grandfather of Stella Harrington, Celia Harrington, and Cal Harrington.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Frank's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, February 6 from 1-5 PM and again on Monday at the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church, 355 Franklin St., Melrose, where a Celebration of Frank's Life will be held at 10:00 AM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
