Mr. Frederick W. "Fred" Matthes, 90, of Malden died suddenly Sunday afternoon June 25, 2006 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Mr.Matthes was born June 23, 1916 in Boston, son of the late Frederic and Marie (Stohr) Matthes.
Mr. Matthes was raised and educated in East Bridgewater. Fred was in the Army during WW II. He was an elevator mechanic for Otis Elevator Company for 10 years and also for F. S. Payne Elevator and Stanley Elevator as an Elevator Constructor, retiring in 1980.He was a member of the American Legion and the Grange in NH.He was a long-time resident of Malden and had also lived in Exeter, NH.His love, passion and hobby were trains and model trains.
Fred was the beloved husband of 63 years to Jennie M. (MacNeill) Matthes.Father of Frederick W. "Fred" Matthes, Jr. and his wife, Diane E. of Nashua, NH.Grandfather of Eric H Matthes of Alaska and Scott H. Matthes of Montgomery, AL.Brother of the late Francis R. Matthes.Brother-in-law of Ursula Matthes of Weymouth, Blanche King of Melrose and George MacNeill of FL.
