Mr. Generoso N. Bernaldo, a resident of Saugus, died on Saturday, March 6, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston following a period of declining health. He was 68 years old.Generoso was born in Hermosa, Philippines on March 28, 1941, one of five children of the late Cirilo Bernaldo and Eduviges (Nalus) Bernaldo.
He was raised in the Philippines and served in the Tabak Division of the Philippine Army.After immigrating to the United States, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard and served from 1967 to 1988.Generoso worked at the US Post Office in Brockton as a mail handler for 16 years.After retiring in 2006, he enjoyed his membership with the Disabled American Veterans in Saugus, American Legion Post #210, the Philippine American Association of New England, and the Philippine Dance Company in Boston. He loved the outdoors, fishing, walking, exercising, and was an active bowler.
Generoso was the beloved husband of Encarnacion "Karen" (Layon) Bernaldo with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.Devoted father of Eugene L. Bernaldo of Saugus.Dear brother of Amelia B. Santos and Lourdes B. Hong both of Philippines, Erlindo Bernaldo of San Diego, CA and the late Luz Palad. Also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, March 11 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in honor and remembrance of Generoso's life in Blessed Sacrament Church, Summer St., Saugus at 10:30 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.Interment with military honors presented by the US Coast Guard in Riverside Cemetery, Saugus.Gifts in Generoso's memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline, MA02445.
