George J. Barrett

Mr. George J. "Skip" Barrett, of Revere, formerly of Melrose and Roslindale, passed away on Sunday evening April 13, 2008 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare of Melrose following a period of declining health. He was 63 years old.

George was born February 19, 1945 in Quincy, son of the late George F. Barrett and Margaret (Clampet) Barrett.

George, affectionately known as "Skip", was raised and educated in Framingham. He graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. He worked as an accountant for 27 years in Federated Department Stores (Jordan Marsh).

George proudly served his country in the US Army 1st Infantry Division (the Big Red 1) as a Combat Medic during the Vietnam War. George was a Past Commander of USS Jacob Jones VFW Post 2017 (Dedham) and of Norfolk District #5 when he received the National Aide-De-Camp Award and was named as an All-State-Team Quartermaster (2017). Most recently, he was a Past Commander of the S/Sgt. Harold O. Young VFW Post 2394 (Melrose). George served as the State Adjutant for the Dept. of Mass-VFW, State Editor for the Mass VFW Newspaper, State Inspector and was the State Pin Chairman for many years. He was a member of the Melrose American Legion, Society of the 1st Infantry Division, a former member of the Dennis F. Thomas VFW Post 2578 (Hyannis) and a life member of the VFW National Home for Children. George loved his dog, Sparky, and two cats, Romeo and Rusty.

George was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. "Beth" (Hayes) Barrett. Cherished son of Margaret Roberts and her husband, John Roberts of Sun City Center, FL.
