George Henry Chase, of Medford, formerly of Wakefield, died Saturday, July 4, 2009 in the Brighten at Medford Nursing Home following a period of declining health. He was 87.
George was born on August 14, 1921 in Medford, son of the late George L. Chase and Ethel (Littlewood) Chase. He was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1939.
George was the retired owner and operator of the Screwmatic Company in Melrose. He was a former Medford Firefighter. George was a very proud veteran and patriot, having served his country during WWII in the United States Army. George was a family man and enjoyed traveling and dancing, especially square and ballroom dancing.He enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and to the family camp at Terrace Pines' in Center Ossipee, New Hampshire. George and Eleanor also attended the prayer group at St. Agnes Church in Reading for many years.
George was the beloved husband of 67 years to the late Eleanor (Holland) Chase who died one week ago on Saturday June 27, 2009. George was the loving father of G. Leonard Chase and his wife Karin of Medford, Douglas A. Chase and his wife Carol of Malden, Mark M. Chase and his wife Lori of Woburn and the late Joel E. Chase. Brother of the late Richard, Alice Griffin and Margaret Lyons.Dear brother-in-law of Louise Chase of Woburn.Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for both George and Eleanor will be held in the Hope Christian Church, 58 Mt. Vernon St., Winchester on Wednesday July 8, 2009 at 5:30 PM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
