George Dimambro

Mr. George DiMambro, of Woburn and formerly a longtime resident of Medford, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at age 84.

George was born in Medford on February 23, 1933, one of four children of the late Domenic and Mary E. (Ashmen) DiMambro. He was raised in Medford, graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1951, and received training as an Electrical Technician at Sylvania Technical Institute. George also served in the US Army National Guard for several years. On October 13, 1958, he married Virginia Foster and they lived in East Boston before settling in Medford to raise a family of four children. George worked for A&P as a meat cutter for nearly 30 years.

A Medford native, George fondly recalled playing baseball as a left-handed third baseman for the local team, the Comets. Throughout life, George engaging in sports as a fan and as a little league coach with his young sons baseball team in N. Medford. He loved supporting the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins, or catching a good boxing fight now and again. George was an avid bowler and worked part time at Medford Sporting Goods for many years. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Virginia throughout the US and several trips to Europe. More recently, George enjoyed his affiliation with the Stoneham Senior Center Caners, and the Winchester Senior Bowling League.

George was a friendly, as well as, a funny guy. Our life is richer for having known him!

George was the beloved husband of Virginia M. (Foster) DiMambro whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Devoted father of David DiMambro and his wife Paula of Wakefield, Mary Anne Guerriero and her husband Robert of Woburn, John DiMambro of Georgetown, and Andrew DiMambro and his wife Lisa of Billerica. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Michele DiMambro of Georgetown. Dear brother of Julia Cronin of Chelmsford, and the late Dominic DiMambro and Paul Franki. Cherished grandfather of Kevin, Clara, John, Michael, Brenden, and Jacob DiMambro. Loving great-grandfather of John and Sophia.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in celebration of George's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, April 25 from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts in George's memory may be made to Hallmark Health VNA & Hospice, 178 Savin St., Ste. 300, Malden MA 02148.
