George L. Fellows

Mr. George L. Fellows, of Effingham, New Hampshire, and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Melrose, at age 98.

George was born on March 13, 1916 in Melrose, one of three children of the late Karl W. Fellows, and Mary A. (Atwood) Fellows. He was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School.He served in the United States Navy as a radarman during World War II in the Pacific Theater.Following his honorable discharge, he married Edith Mackernan and they settled in Melrose to raise two children.

George worked in metal spinning most of his working life.He was experienced in many areas of metal spinning, manufacturing, and molding.Well trained with his hands, George was involved with many enterprises from radar systems to automobiles.He was a jack of all trades and renaissance man with his ability to fix, create, and shape anything out of metal.After retiring in 1978, he moved to New Hampshire and bought a "fixer upper" that he completely refurbished.An intelligent man, he built a great room and garage at his home and helped renovate his daughters home.

George's passion in life was the outdoors.From an early age, George developed a lifelong appreciation for nature. In particular, George loved fishing and especially hunting in the New Hampshire woods.Every fall for many years, he spent a week or two hunting in New Hampshire, Maine, or Canada with his buddies. A gun collector, he was most happy when in the woods tracking down a moose, deer or bear.

George loved his family, horticulture, music and playing the piano.He had a great sense of humor, and was a man of great strength to the end of his 98 years.George was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Melrose, and the Melrose Elks.Above all else, George was a family man who loved his grandchildren and hunting.

He was the beloved husband of the late Edith (Mackernan) Fellows. Devoted father of Linda A. Doucette and her husband Ronald of Stoneham, and Karl W. Fellows and his late wife Sylvia. Dear brother of the late Karl Fellows, and Helen Kasprzak. Cherished grandfather of David, Paul, Diana, Kris, and Lee.Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends will honor and remember George's life by gathering for his Graveside Service at Wyoming Cemetery, 205 Sylvan St., Melrose on Saturday, June 28 at 8:30AM.
