Gilbert M. “Bill” Soule, Jr., a resident of Plymouth and formerly of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth at age 87.

Gilbert, affectionately known by all as “Bill” was born in Stoneham on October 6, 1935, one of two children of the late Gilbert M. and Barbara (Elwell) Soule. His childhood was spent in New York City before the family moved to Wakefield where he graduated from Wakefield High School. With a keen intellect, Bill went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Boston University. His education and interest in flight led him to enlist in the United States Air Force in November of 1957.

During his four year service in the Air Force, Bill played role in the strategic air command over Europe and the USSR. His unwavering dedication to his country earned him an honorable discharge, and he remained a proud serviceman his entire life. Following his military discharge, Bill joined the family business, Melody Ranch Music Shops, based in Wakefield, where he worked alongside his father for several years.

Good with his hands, Bill later operated his own automobile repair business. He specialized in repairing the fine interiors of Mercedes Benz, showcasing his meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Bill was known for his love of flight, and found comfort and joy in the world of aviation. Whether it was his time serving in the Air Force, building numerous model aircraft, or using a flight simulator to replicate flying, Bill's passion for flight was lifelong. Additionally, he was an avid supporter of the Boston Red Sox, and had an extensive collection of coins, reflecting his curiosity and appreciation for history.

After living in Hanover, Hull, Hingham and Duxbury, Bill and Kathy moved to the Pine Hills in Plymouth.

Bill was a reserved man who enjoyed the comforts of home, but also had a fun, humorous side that kept everyone guessing. He will be missed, but always lovingly remembered.

Bill was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Atwood) “Kathy” Soule with whom he shared 25 years of marriage.
