Mrs. Gloria S. (Thorne) Peters, beloved wife of the late Eugene M. Peters, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 19, 2013 at the age of 81.Gloria was a resident of Torrington, CT and formerly of Melrose, MA.
Gloria was born on October 5, 1931 in Medford, daughter of the late Lester and Margaret (Goodwin) Thorne. She was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School with the Class of 1949.She married Gene on October 23, 1950 and they settled in Melrose to raise three children.Throughout her life, family was paramount to Gloria.She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Gloria enjoyed 3 decades living on Lovell Road in Melrose and loved spending time during the summer in Ocean Park, Maine.As a child, her parents brought her to Ocean Park and she continued to enjoy the area with her own family as a parent and grandparent.
Gloria centered her life around her family.She made certain that her children were well cared for, and always found ways to provide all the loving support they needed. She treasured a close relationship with her parents, and cared for them as they grew older.She ensured the whole family stayed connected with regular Sunday dinners, and by celebrating birthdays, and holidays together.
Gloria and Gene enjoyed traveling. They traveled to Europe, Disney World, and for their 25th wedding anniversary, they celebrated by traveling to Las Vegas.
A Melrose resident for many years, Gloria was active in the community.She was a member of the Melrose Women's Club, Melrose AARP, and a longtime active member of the Green Street Baptist Church. Gloria was a woman with strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ.
Gloria and Gene shared 42 years of marriage.Devoted mother of Susan S. Clark (husband Thomas), Stephen M. Peters (wife Kathy). and David L. Peters (wife Eileen).Cherished grandmother of Amy Peery, Nicholas Landry, Matthew Landry, Thomas Clark, Peter Clark, Daniel Peters, Kevin Peters, Brian Peters, Andrew Peters, Emily Peters, and Katherine Peters.Additionally, beloved great-grandmother of eight.Her extended family includes many cousins, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
