Mrs. Grace C. (Hartman) Johnson, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Brooksby Village Renaissance Gardens in Peabody, at the age of 90.
Grace was born in Malden on April 15, 1922, a daughter of the late Nicholas Hartman and Nellie (McKay) Hartman.She was raised in Malden where she graduated from Malden High School.She worked as a Secretary for the Kimball & Gilman Law Firm for 43 years.
Grace was a longtime active member of the Glendale United Methodist Church in Everett and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Everett.Grace liked to stay busy with her many interests including ice skating, roller skating, travelling, knitting and crocheting.She enjoyed going to Maine where they had a summer camp for many years.She also loved ball-room dancing and square-dancing with her late husband Frank.Grace was a great hostess who had a gentle soul and was an exceptional cook.She loved entertaining her friends and family and never uttered a bad word about anybody.
She was the cherished wife of the late Frank A. Johnson with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.Stepmother of Christine Teague of Sanford, ME.Dear sister of the late Charles, Alexander, William and Helen Hartman.Beloved aunt of Rev. Charles G. Hartman and his wife Anona of Melrose, William C. Hartman and his wife Jeanette of NC, Lee A. Woodbury of NH, William W. Hartman and his wife Sherri of TX, Holly Bremer and her husband William of OK, Brian Hartman and his wife Rosemary of OK, and the late Diane O'Madigan and Bruce C. Hartman.Grandmother of Kimberley Anderson, Charles Anderson, and Jeremy Teague.Great grandmother of Stone K. Anderson.Also survived by many grandnieces, grandnephews, and her longtime dear friend Priscilla Mickle of Wilmington.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Grace's life for Visiting Hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, November 23 from 4-8 PM and again for her Funeral Service celebrated at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
