Mrs. Grace F. (Judge) Pike, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham.She was 96.
Grace was born on February 12, 1922 in Everett, one of eight children of the late John J. and Theresa (McCarron) Judge.She was raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High School in 1939. During WWII, Grace worked for the telephone company as an operator in Newport News, VA. She was married in Newport News to Warren L. Pike on April 12, 1945. After their marriage, Grace and Warren moved to Malden before finally settling in Melrose to raise four children.
Grace was very civic minded, and volunteered for many different organizations throughout her life.She was a proud volunteer for numerous political campaigns over the years, and was often at the corner of Main and Upham Streets holding a sign in support of a local cause. She also volunteered at the Aids Action Committee, and the Union of Concerned Scientists. Grace also truly enjoyed assisting at the Lincoln School in Melrose where she read to students and guided students learning to read.
Grace loved experiencing the City of Boston and visited often to take in all the sights and sounds of the City. She enjoyed just walking around, shopping, meeting and chatting with people, and if needed, was always willing to offer help with directions to tourists.
Outside of her volunteer work and support in the community, Grace was most happy spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing tennis with a large group of friends, and after retirement, she and Warren enjoyed traveling all over the world.
A positive woman, Grace was truly appreciative for all the blessings she had in her life. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for her soft spoken nature, and for being a great listener.
Grace was the beloved wife of the late Warren L. Pike with whom she shared 54 years of devoted marriage. Loving mother of Carol Lederman and her husband Jim of Winthrop, John Pike and his late wife Patricia of Melrose, Janice Reddington and her husband Jack of Amesbury, and James Pike and his wife Stella of Hong Kong. Cherished grandmother of Elizabeth, Sarah, Edward, Eric, Thomas, Russell, Austin, Audrey, Alissa, James Warren and Alastair. Loving great grandmother to Kaitlyn, Jamie, Michael, Sophia, Noah, Tessa, and Emma. Dear sister of the late Anne McCarville, John Judge, Daniel Judge, Joseph Judge, Rose Toomey, Marjorie Huenneke and Leo Judge. Caring aunt to many nieces and nephews.
The Pike family will forever remember the wonderful care received from the nurses, caregivers and staff at the Bear Hill Nursing Center.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Saturday, May 12 from 9-10am, followed by a Celebration of Grace's life at 10am.
