Hannah (Lord) Greene

Hannah (Lord) Greene, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, August 19, 2016, at age 82.

Hannah was born at home in Melrose on June 29, 1934, one of eight children of the late Norman and Cecile (Bishop) Lord. She was raised in Melrose where she graduated from Melrose High School with the Class of 1952. Hannah married the late Robert F. Greene in 1959 and together they had two sons, Robert and David. They resided in Reading for several years before returning to her family home in Melrose where she resided for 46 years.

Hannah worked for several years at General Electric before having her children as a bookkeeper. She later worked for S & K in clerical work, but most of all was happy to be a homemaker.

In her free time, Hannah enjoyed cooking for her family and was noted for her authentic Italian tomato sauce. She was an avid Red Sox supporter, loved bingo, and bowling. She always had a deck of cards in her hands and enjoyed playing solitaire at home to keep busy or any card game with family. She considered motherhood her single most important job, a job that she excelled in. Hannah loved flowers, reading History books, and knitting. She made many sweaters, afghans, and hats for her family and friends as gifts of love. Wingaersheek beach in Gloucester held a special place in her heart. From a young age, the family spent many summer days relaxing at the beach, or sharing time together with multiple generations at the family cottage. Hannah will be lovingly remembered as a deeply devoted family woman who cherished her husband, seven siblings and two sons.

Hannah was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Greene with whom she shared 39 years of marriage. Devoted mother of David Greene and his wife Laura of Melrose, and the late Robert S. Greene and his surviving wife Tina of Dracut. Dear sister of Norma Garvey of Peabody, Charlotte Eberly of Peabody, Priscilla Lord of Danvers, Virginia "Ginnie" Stanton of MD, and the late Norman Lord, Dwight Lord, Cecile Gay, and Marjorie Connors. Cherished grandmother of Caitlyn Todisco of Kennebunk, ME. Also lovingly survived by many nieces, and nephews.
