Mr. Harlan R. "Skip" Plante, a resident of Peabody, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the North Shore Medical Center - Union Hospital, at the age of 87.
Harlan, known as "Skip" to all who knew and loved him, was born in Newburyport on October 9, 1924, the son of the late Albert Plante and Phoebe (Pelletier) Plante.Raised and educated in Newburyport, Skip served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
For 10 years, Skip worked for Raytheon as a Manager in Aeronautics Department at the Lowell plant.Skip who was known as an athlete from a young age, played baseball and basketball at Newburyport High, and played semi-professional baseball and football after graduating.He was a constant and passionate supporter of the Patriots and Celtics, and loved watching all the games.Skip also loved ballroom dancing with his beloved wife Nancy.
Skip was the beloved husband of Nancy J. (Phillips) Plante with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.Devoted father of Jason R. Plante of Peabody, F. Robert Allison and his wife Suzanne of Topsfield, and Bruce O. Allison of Vancouver, WA.Cherished grandfather of Emily, Kailey, Sydney, and Courtney Allison.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Skip's life by gathering for his Funeral Service celebrated at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, October 5 at 12 Noon.Interment with military honors presented by the US Army at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.Gifts in Skip's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
