Harold H. Hooper, 92 of Melrose died at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Tuesday afternoon, March 2, 2005.
Mr. Hooper was born April 20, 1912 in Malden, MA. Son of the late Ralph A. and Maybell (Hayden) Hooper. Harold was raised in Wakefield and played football at Wakefield High School. Harold was an avid sports enthusiast having played semi-pro football after graduating from Wakefield High School.He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a salesman forH. P. Hood Milk Company for over 30 years.He was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Melrose.He was also a member of the VFW Harold O. Young Post 2394 of Melrose and an active member of the Go Go Seniors group.He loved his weekly dancing with his friends, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.He also loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Harold was the husband of the late Edith E. "Dee" (Tower) Hooper.Father of Naomi E. Rooney and her husband, Larry of Hampton, NH, David T. Maihiot and his wife Candace of Andover Richard H. Hooper and his wife Carole of Pentwater, MI and Barbara J. King and her husband John of new Boston, NH.Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Harold is also survived by his close long-time friend, Duke Dugas of Melrose. Funeral Service at the First Congregational Church, 121 West Foster St., Melrose, Monday, March 7 at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Sunday 2-5 PM. Interment will be Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield, MA.
