Mrs. Helen M. (Washburn) Baratz, a resident of Saugus for many years, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Helen was born in Cambridge, one of five children to Joseph H. Washburn and Gladys (Dykens) Washburn.

Mrs. Baratz was raised in North Reading and graduated from Lexington High School.She received a degree in design from Mass College of Art and subsequently worked at Rustcraft as a designer for 7 years.In the 1960's, Helen competed as a professional bowler and received 1st place in the Boston Traveler - MBA Tournament of Champions in 1962.She traveled on tour with her Andover Bowling Team and coached teenage boys and girls bowling.Helen enjoyed ballroom dancing, teaching arts & crafts and was a 4-H leader for teenage girls.

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Joe "Cakie" Baratz with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.Loving mother of Beverly Saghier of Winter Haven, FL and Sandrajean Giordano and her husband of Robert Saugus.Dear sister of Robert Washburn and his wife Vivianne of Green Castle, PA, Dorothy Crosby and her husband Bob of Reading, Shirley McKenna and her husband Bert of Tampa, FL, and George Washburn and his wife Anne of Kingston, NH.Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
