Mrs. Helen A. (Melchionno) Murphy, of Brooksby Village, formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2014, at Putnam Farm in Danvers. She was 97.

Helen was born in Boston on March 6, 1917, one of seven children of the late Peter and Angelina Melchionno.Raised and educated in Revere, she and her late husband Frank settled in Melrose to raise their family. A homemaker, Helen dedicated her life to caring for her husband, and four children.

In her leisure time, Helen was an expert card player, and a great golfer. She enjoyed a competitive game of bridge several days a week, and won several championships at Bellevue Golf Club where they were members for over 30 years.

With her quick wit and loving nature, she was a great companion to Frank and served as his best audience. Above all else, she was most happy when surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Francis W. "Frank" Murphy with whom she shared 69 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Kenneth F. Murphy and his wife Rosemary of Freeport, ME, Richard A. Murphy and his wife Elaine of Belmont, Michael A. Murphy of Rowley and the late Janet Murphy.Dear sister of the late Celia T. Bergami, Theresa Deminico, Arthur Melchionno, Nicholas Melchionno, Louis Melchionno, and Michael Melchionno. Cherished grandmother of Kimberly Brewer of Arlington, VA, Kenneth F. Murphy of Westwood, Michael C. Murphy of Taos, NM, Janet Murphy of Arlington, Mark Murphy of New York City, Alison Murphy of Vancouver, BC, Kristen Murphy of Somerville, and David Murphy of Stoneham. Loving great-grandmother of Kevin, Julie, Matthew, Connor, Rio, Nicholas, and Adam.

Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Helen's life during visiting hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, December 11from 4-8pm, and again on Friday at 9am before leaving in procession to the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
