Helen M. (Domigan) Spinney

Helen M. (Domigan) Spinney, a longtime resident of Saugus, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Beverly Hospital, at age 80.

Helen was born with her twin sister on June 24, 1941 in Revere, one of four of the late Richard C. and Shirley M. (Pariseau) Domigan. Originally from Revere, Helen moved with her family to Saugus where she graduated from Saugus High School. She was married to Ivan Spinney on October 1, 1961, and eventually returned to Saugus to raise a family of two sons.

Helen, who centered her life around family, was an easy going, beloved and patient woman. Family is what made her the most happy, and she was content to immerse herself in the needs of her family. Every Sunday for the last 20 years, Helen hosted a big family dinner for her sons, grandchildren and any Spinney family members. Family holidays, or events were always held at her house, and she enjoyed cooking, especially baking cookies and pies. In her free time, she and Ivan and siblings joined together in the car for day long excursions around New England. Helen enjoyed seeing the fall foliage, visiting historical locations, or just driving to Maine to grab lunch.

Helen had a strong connection with her twin sister, Shirley, and they enjoyed regular daylong Scrabble games together. She had a love for all animals, in particular the family dog, Rubbles who she loved. Helen was a member of the Melrose Church of the Nazarene, and enjoyed Thursday afternoon Bible sessions at her home.

Helen was a sweet, kind and patient matriarch of her family. She doted on her children, and was happiest when doing anything with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed, but her selfless nature, and kind, giving heart will be treasured forever.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ivan E. Spinney with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Stephen Spinney and his wife Cathy Witham of Saugus, and David Spinney and his wife Kyong Suk of Woburn. Dear sister of Shirley Strychalski (twin sister) and her husband Donnie of Saugus, Richard Domigan and his wife Ann of Salem, NH, and Judy LeFave and her late husband Gary of Peabody. Cherished grandmother of Scott Spinney, Stephen Spinney, Kaitlin Spinney, Jonathan Spinney, David Witham, and Kelsey Witham. Great-grandmother of Cullen and Ava. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Helen's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 24 from 1:00-2:30pm, followed by her Funeral Service celebrated at 2:30pm.
