Mr.Henry Crosskill Betcher, Jr. died November 8, 2003 at the Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover.Mr. Betcher was born March 26, 1914 in East Weymouth, MA, son of the late Henry C. Betcher, Sr. and Gladys M. (McClearn) Betcher.
Mr. Betcher was a WWIIVeteran US Air Force, Past Grand Commander of Grand Commandery Knights Templar of MA and RI; Past District Deputy of Chelsea Third Masonic District; Member of Fidelity Lodge AF& AM; Member and Past Master of Baalbec Lodge, Everett; Member of Aleppo Temple Shrine, Wilmington, Member and former Dad Advisor of Melrose DeMolay; Member and Past Sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine; Member of Hugh de Payens Commandery #20; and Melrose Council was a member of the marching unit of the Minuteman Unit for Aleppo Temple Shrine; Member of Scottish Rite Valley of Boston.Retired after 43 years from New England Telephone Company.He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and was a Leader for youth groups for many years and past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mr.Betcher was the husband of B. Ruth (Blockel) Betcher.Father of Janet E. Woodman and her husband, Melville of Newburyport and Henry C. Betcher and his wife Gaye M. of Columbia, SC.Brother of Eleanor Albright of New Gloucester, ME.Grandfather of Stephen Woodman of Seabrook, NH, Heather Brown of Brentwood, NH, Henry C. Betcher III and Ethan Betcher, both of Columbia, SC.Also survived by 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service in the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Thursday, November 13 at 12 noon.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday4-7 PM. Fidelity Lodge AF&AM will conduct a masonic service at the funeral home Wednesday at 6pm.
