Mr. Herbert C. Brown, a lifelong resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2015, at EPOCH of Melrose, at age 89.
Herbert was born in Melrose on November 24, 1925, one of two sons of the late Herbert C. and Elizabeth (Gordon) Brown. He was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. Mr. Brown honorably served as a US Army Typist and Cryptographic Technician during WWII while stationed in Alaska. After receiving an honorable discharge, Herb resided in Melrose on Highview Ave. with his stepmother, Alice Brown, for many years.He was employed as a truck driver for automobile parts for a number of years.
Mr. Brown was an easy going man who enjoyed being outdoors.He often travelled to the New Hampshire woods for camping trips where he spent the days canoeing and/or backpacking. He also enjoyed photography, and was a regular Boston sports fan. Quiet and kind, Herb will be missed.
Herbert was the devoted brother of the late Gordon C. Brown, and stepbrother of Carleton Gray and his wife Charlene of Concord, and the late Beverly Buzzell and her surviving husband Ward of SC. Dear brother-in-law of the late Persis C. Brown. Loving uncle of David G. Brown and his wife Carol of N. Weymouth, Peter C. Brown and his wife Mary of W. Lebanon, NH, and Jeffrey A. Brown and his wife Linda of Acton. Also survived by several great nieces and great nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor of Herb's life for a Memorial Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, May 7 at 11:00AM.
