Herbert L. Fletcher, Jr.

December 25, 1936 — June 30, 2024

Herbert L. Fletcher, Jr.

Herbert L. Fletcher Jr., born on Christmas Day in 1936 in Boston, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, in Wakefield.  He was 87.

Herb was the son of the late Herbert L. and Helen (Sargent) Fletcher, Sr.  He grew up in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School and continued his education at Northeastern University, earning a bachelor’s degree. His adventurous spirit led him to join the ROTC and serve in the US Army. While stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia, Herb met the love of his life, Anne, who would become his partner in all of life's adventures.

Throughout his life, Herb was an avid hunter, skilled marksman, and a member of the Masons and Shriners. He loved spending summers in Scituate, where he found solace in nature and coastal landscapes. Herb's jovial nature and outgoing personality endeared him to all who knew him, and he cherished his time with family above all else.  Herb was also very active in the Masons, Shriners, and was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Melrose where he sang in the choir for many years.

He thoroughly enjoyed leisurely walks, a love for delicious cuisine, and cherished quiet evenings spent lost in the pages of a good book.

Herb will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered.

Herb was the beloved husband of the late Anne (Baldwin) Fletcher, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. Devoted father of Janet Hauswirth and her husband Jack of Boxborough, and Scott Fletcher and his wife Lisa of Wakefield.  Cherished grandfather of James and Jacqueline Hauswirth and Sarah Fletcher.

Services for Herb are private.
