Mr. Herbert "Vall" Taylor, a 50-year resident of Melrose, died on Sunday evening, January 23, 2011 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital at the age of 90.
Born on May 27, 1920 in Bristol's Hope, Newfoundland, Canada, he was one of ten children of the late James D. Taylor and Isabel (Adams) Taylor.
Mr. Taylor, affectionately known by many as "Vall" was raised and educated in Newfoundland.In 1948, he moved to the United States where he became a carpenter and was a 50-year member of the Carpenter's Local 40.Herbert Taylor was an active member of the Wyoming and Fidelity AF&AM Lodges for 25 years and was a 47-year member of the First United Methodist Church.Vall loved ice skating and was a big fan of the Boston Bruins.
Herbert "Vall" Taylor was the beloved husband of Marion V. (Snow) Taylor with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.Devoted father of Ruth Y. Murphy of Fitzwilliam, NH and Jacqueline A. Taylor of Melrose.Dear brother of Grace Gilford of Topsfield and the late Hedley Taylor, Sarah Taylor, Rita Saunders, George Taylor, Laura Rowe, Eugenie Parsons, Mary Taylor and Helen Payne.Cherished grandfather of Andrew P. Murphy, Brian T. Murphy and Christine Y. Murphy.Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
