He was born April 4, 1922 in Saugus, MA son to the late Calvin S. Bassett and Alice L. (Hanson) Bassett.
Howard was raised in Saugus, graduated from Saugus High School and earned his accounting degree at Bentley College. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the William Sutton Lodge AF & AM in Saugus.He was a member of the Melrose Highlands Congregational Church where he served on the finance committee and was an accountant for 40 years at G.A. Nickola in Boston.
Howard was the beloved husband of 53 years to the late Sarah J. (Slocum).Devoted father of David S. Bassett of Gaithersburg, MD and John H. Bassett and his wifeAmy of Wakefield. Cherished grandfather of Nicholas J. Bassett and Jacob W. Bassett, both of Wakefield. Brother of the late Barbara Gerakaris and Brother in law of Lucretia Lozis of Auburn, ME.
