Mr. Howie Christie, of Reading, formerly of Wakefield, former owner of Woodward & Miller Printing Co. in Melrose, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.He was 88 years old.
Mr. Christie was born on April 29, 1921 in Wakefield, one of four sons of the late Francis H. Christie and Eliza Ann (Kelloway) Christie.
Howie was raised in Wakefield, graduated from Wakefield High School and was a longtime Wakefield resident.He worked for B&M Railroad as a signal repairman from 1939 - 1969 until he purchased Woodward & Miller Printing Co. which he operated until 1986.He was a member of the Melrose Rotary Club, Fidelity Lodge AF&AM, Aleppo Temple Shrine, Waverly Royal Arch Chapter, Hugh De Payens Commandery and the VFW Post #685 in Reading.Howie served his country in the US Army during WWII and was a longtime member of the Greenwood Union Church in Wakefield.He was an avid golfer and loved his time playing at Mt. Hood Golf Course in Melrose.
Howie was the beloved husband of Barbara (Woodward) Christie with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Loving father of Susan Monson and her friend Gerald Elibero of Leesburg, FL and Wendy A. Murley and her friend Nancy Jacoby of Rockland. Dear brother of Francis H. Christie Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK and the late S. Kenneth Christie and Albert Clare Christie.Cherished grandfather of Christie MacDonald, Thomas Monson, Mark Rosalbo and the late Scott Rosalbo.Also survived by 8 loving great grandchildren.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE, Thursday, May 7 at 12 noon.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 PM. Interment will be in Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield with military honors presented by the US Army.
