Ida C. McGirr, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Meadow View Center in North Reading, at age 99.
Ida was born on July 12, 1914 in St. George, New Brunswick, Canada.She was the last remaining of 10 children born to John E. and Mary E. (Craig) McGirr.At the young age of 13, Ida and her family came down from New Brunswick and settled in Everett.She graduated from Everett High School and worked for 27 years as a Private Secretary at General Electric in Lynn.She lived in Melrose for many years.
Ida's priority in life was her family.She surrounded herself with her loving brothers and sisters and their families.Ida loved holidays and get-togethers with family and friends. She also loved a good game of bridge, and enjoyed working on political campaigns.She was a longtime member of Trinity Church in Melrose.
Ida was the devoted sister of the late Louise A. Hartwell, Harriet A. Westlake, Margaret E. McGirr, Hazel R. Walker, J. Douglas McGirr, James McGirr, Edgar McGirr, Eileen Turcotte and George "Mac" McGirr.She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Ida's life by gathering at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Tuesday, October 22 from 10:00-11:00 AM followed by her Funeral Service celebrated at 11:00 AM.Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
