Mr. Irven L. Franklin, a resident of Arlington, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at age 81.
Irven was born on February 5, 1935, one of two sons of the late Irven R. Franklin and Dorothy (Gleason) Franklin. He was born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Urbana, Illinois, and grew up fishing and enjoying the outdoors with his younger brother, Roy. He graduated from Urbana High School, Class of 1952 where he played high school basketball. At age 17, Irven enlisted in the US Navy and served four years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1956.An intelligent man, Irven completed courses at Boston College in Business Administration. He worked as foreman of a machine shop for many years.
An avid sports fan, Irven loved the Patriots, the Montreal Canadiens, and the Chicago White Sox from his childhood days in Illinois.In his free time, he enjoyed watching old country westerns, and the Discovery Channel, but also loved playing cribbage and golf.After recovering from a stroke, he particularly enjoyed the adventure and strategy of role playing video games that kept his mind sharp and body at ease. Honest and generous, Irven was a caring man whose kindness and strong values were based on his Christian faith. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
Irven was the husband of Jeannette F. (O'Hara) Franklin. Devoted father of Larry Franklin and his wife Carol of Mansfield, John Franklin of Arlington, Robert Franklin of Arlington, and Steven Franklin and his wife Karen of Pelham NH. Dear brother of the late Roy V. Franklin. Cherished grandfather of Sabrina, Crystal, Janelle, and Andria and her husband Brian. Loving great-grandfather of Alyssa, Ariah, Lilliana, Devin, Joseph, Tyler, Mathew.
