Mr. James F. "Jim" McGowan, Jr., 54of Melrose, died at his home on Wednesday morning October 27, 2004. Jim was born in Boston on September 14, 1950, son of the late James F. McGowan and Mary E. (O'Connor) McGowan. Jim was raised in Charlestown and graduated from Boston Technical High School.Jim was an MBTA Bus Operator for 28 years.He was a member of the Boston Carmen's Union, Local #589 and a Barn Captain for the Bennett Street Garage in Charlestown.Jim received his Safe Driving Award from the "T" for 25 consecutive years, having received a pin each year for 25 years.Jim was an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #635, Melrose.Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Jim was the beloved husband of Martha R. (Wilson) McGowan.He was the devoted father of James F. McGowan III and his wife Jennifer of Pepperell, Michael P. McGowan of Melrose and Mary E. McGowan and Richard P. Oxley Jr. both of Wakefield.Jim was the devoted brother of Patrick McGowan and his wife Carla of Melrose and the late Timothy M. McGowan. Grandfather of Matthew J. McGowan of Pepperell and Tyler J. Oxley of Wakefield.Uncle of Zachary McGowan and Seth Farrell, both of Melrose. Funeral from the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., MELROSE Saturday, Oct. 30at 9 AM.Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefieldat 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday only 4-8 PM.
