She was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on March 31, 1946 to the late James J. and Gladys (Guest) Hayes.When she was two, the family moved to Edgewater Park in the Bronx, New York, where she was a student at the St. Francis de Chantel School.She and her family moved to Massachusetts in 1960 and to Melrose in 1961.She graduated from Melrose High School, and enjoyed swimming in her youth.
Jane Married her beloved James P. Dowd in February of 1969 and they settled in Woburn to raise their family.They relocated to Stoneham in their later years.She worked in the financial services industry for over 40 years and was a Vice President of Salomon Smith Barney when she retired.
Jane's first love was her dear family.As she was her children and grandchildren's biggest fan, she was exceptionally active in their lives.She never missed a school function, sports activity or family get together, and took great joy in helping to raise her grandchildren.
Another passion of Jane's was Genealogy.She took great joy in doing exhaustive research into family history, even traveling to England and back to her beloved Newfoundland to learn more about her families past.
Jane's love, warmth, and kindness will be missed.
Jane was the beloved wife of the late James P. Dowd with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Michael J. Dowd and his wife Julie of Chelmsford, and the late John Joseph Dowd. Cherished grandmother of Aidan, Abigail, and Liam Dowd.Dear sister of Patricia McCarthy, Edward Hayes and his late wife Sue Ann, Gerald Hayes and his wife Diane, the late James Hayes, and the late Denis Hayes.Also survived by many honorary grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Due to the public health crisis, services for Jane will be private.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
