Janice M. Shepherd
Jan was born on April 11, 1929 in Medford, one of two daughters of the late Alice (Hilson) and Joseph N. Marsh.
A graduate of Wheaton College and Andover Newton Theological School, Jan was ordained a Minister of the United Church of Christ in 1981 while serving as Assistant to the Minister of the First Congregational Church in Harwich, MA.Janice or "Pastor Jan" as she was known, served at Lancaster Congregational Church in NH, Deerfield Community Church in NH, and Chaffin Congregational Church in MA.She served as Minister of Education at Union Congregational Church in Maynard, MA.She also served as the Interim Pastor for Churches in Warren, MA, Deering, NH, and Jaffrey, NH.After retiring from ministry, Jan settled in Heritage Heights, Concord, NH in 2008.
She was the loving mother of Richard W. Shepherd and his wife Diane of Somersworth, NH, Charles J. Shepherd and his wife Cindy of Millis, MA, John R. Shepherd and his wife Diane of York, ME, Alice Goddard and her husband Ray of Derry, NH, Mary Nardone and her husband Paul Clapp of Southborough, MA and the late Martha Shepherd.Former wife of the late Warren R. Shepherd.Dear sister of Phyllis Dane Prouty of Moultonborough, NH.Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Lisa, Chris, Ryan, Diana Maria, Jesse, Joshua, and Tucker.Loving great grandmother of Xander, Kailyn Paige, and Ally.Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service at the East Congregational Church, 51 Mountain Rd., Concord, NH on Thursday, January 6 at 11:30 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jan's honor may be made in memory of her late daughter, Martha, to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202 or to Jan's Church, East Congregational UCC, 51 Mountain Rd., Concord, NH 03301.
