Mrs. Jean (LaMonica) Brossenne, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2014 at age 92 at the Glen Ridge Nursing Center in Medford.
Jean was born in Boston, a daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Joseph and Concetta (Cordovano) LaMonica.Raised in East Boston, she met her future husband, Albert R. Brossenne, while out dancing with friends and they married at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in East Boston in 1944.She and Al moved to Melrose in the 1950's and they settled on Woodland Avenue to raise a family of two children. Jean immediately felt comfortable in Melrose and was proud to call it home for over 60 years.
A social butterfly, Jean was a 50-year volunteer at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Gift Shop.She was a founding member of the Women's Bowling League, and belonged to the Melrose and Wakefield Bowling Leagues. She also enjoyed doing ceramics and made many cherished gifts and Christmas decorations for her family.In her spare time, Jean enjoyed reading, word-search, gardening, and dancing with Al.
Jean was the matriarch of her family, and her love and kindness was treasured by everyone around her. She was well respected and served as a source of love and strength for the entire family. Always ready to welcome you into her home, she loved cooking, baking, and gathering everyone together for Christmas. Her basement was full of toys year-round for when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited. In the summer, she enjoyed taking her grandchildren to Falmouth Heights on Cape Cod. Strong, and loved by all, Jean's memory will always live on in the hearts of her family.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Albert R. Brossenne with whom she shared 48 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Sherryl J. Breda and her husband James of Melrose, and Robert C. Brossenne of Melrose. Dear sister of Rita Meador and her husband Lee of Medford, and the late Joseph LaMonica, Stephen LaMonica, Marie Puleio, Robert LaMonica, and Helen Kidawski. Cherished grandmother of Eric Breda and his wife Melissa of Saugus, and Stacey Brown and her husband Darren of Melrose. Treasured aunt of Marie Golini and her husband Joe of Middleton. Loving great-grandmother of Giovanna, Domenic, Angelina, Vincent, Harrison, Grant, and Matthew. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Jean's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, July 29 from 4-8 PM, and again on Wednesday at 9:30AM before leaving in procession to the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
