Jean (Ganey) Cunningham, a resident of Wakefield and formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at age 64.
Born on May 26, 1955, Jean was raised in Salem.She graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1973, and proceeded to enter the nursing program at Salem Hospital, from which she graduated in 1976.A few years later, Jean joined Lahey Clinic, the organization to which she would dedicate almost her entire 40 plus year career.Jean settled in Wilmington, where she raised her two children.
Jean was a passionate, skilled, and dedicated nurse who provided exceptional care to her patients.She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Nursing later in life in conjunction with her promotion into nurse management.In 2018 she was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Jean Cunningham Excellence in Nursing Award, which recognizes outstanding clinical leadership, nursing skills, and mentorship at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.
Jean enjoyed cooking (she was an excellent baker) and traveling, though she found the greatest joy when simply spending time with her family.She shared a unique bond with her twin sister, Judy, which endured throughout life.For the last six years her most important role was grandmother to three grandchildren whom she cherished every day.
Jean was a gentle warrior who always maintained an optimistic outlook throughout life's challenges.Her kindness, courage, and love for her family will continue on as her lasting legacy.She will be deeply missed but always lovingly remembered.
Jean was the devoted mother of Shannon J. Robins and her husband Jason of Weston, and Chris M. Cunningham and his husband John Renner of Seattle, WA.Cherished daughter of Janet (Doucette) Ganey and the late Carol Ganey.Beloved sister of Judy Strasnick and her partner Randheer Shailam of Beverly, Karen Carideo and her husband Frank of Rowley, Brett Ganey of Charlotte, NC, and Michael Ganey of Rowley.Proud and doting Nana of Levi, Charlie, and Ellie Robins.Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
