Mrs. Jean F. (MacDonald) Gilman, a longtime Wakefield resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Daniels House Nursing Home in Reading.She was 88 years old.
Jean was born in Melrose on October 8, 1921, one of two children of the late Norman D. MacDonald and Gertrude F. (Cotton) MacDonald.
Jean was raised and educated in Melrose.She graduated from Perry Normal School and worked for Guillow's Co., MACOM Co. and for Dunkin Donuts at the Wakefield Junction.Mrs. Gilman loved travelling.Her favorite trips were to Greece, Rome, the Grand Canyon, and various cruises she took in the Caribbean.She enjoyed gardening and most of all loved spending time with her friends and family at her cottage "Glenmar" at Wells Beach, Maine.
She was the former wife of the late George L. Gilman.Devoted mother of Marcia "Bonnie" Hobbs and her husband, Reginald G., of Wakefield and Glenn L. Gilman and his wife, Karen, of Jacksonville, FL.Mother-in-law of the late Robin Gilman.Dear sister of the late Roger MacDonald.Cherished grandmother of Reginald B. Hobbs and his wife, Jennifer Gaudet, of Maynard, Gregory L. Gilman and his wife, Rebecca, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Christopher J. Gilman of Virginia Beach, VA.Loving great grandmother of Trinity, Makayla and Gavin Gilman.
Funeral Service at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, September 20 at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6 PM.Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.Gifts in Jean's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
