Mrs. Jeanne M. (Shields) Glancy, a resident of Mashpee and formerly of Malden, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham, at age 88.

Born on December 21, 1927, Jeanne was the daughter of the late John Shields and Mary C. (McCarthy) Carlson, and wife of the late Edwin J. Glancy.She was raised and educated in Malden where she graduated from Malden High School. Jeanne dedicated her working career to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was a steady presence for 25 years as a Patient Care Technician at Melrose-Wakefield and later for 5 more years as a medical receptionist.

In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, including road trips around New England, a treasured trip to Europe and visits with family around the country. Jeanne had an appreciation for nature, enjoyed camping, and loved spending time in the outdoors in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Cape Cod. Closer to home, she enjoyed playing cards and games, doing crossword puzzles, going to museums, the theatre/movies, and was an avid reader. She was also a passionate Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Generous and with a concern for others, Jeanne had a big heart and tried to make a difference. One of Jeanne's greatest passions was animal rights and she supported the Northeast Animal Shelter of Salem, MA, Save the Chimps, and several animal advocacy organizations throughout her life.Through Children International, she also sponsored two young girls from the Philippines from early childhood through college. Most of all, she loved her family and found great joy in celebrating gatherings with everyone. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Jeanne was the devoted mother of Edwin J. "Skip" Glancy of Sun Praire, WI, Paul C. Glancy and his wife Elaine Jafolla of Richmond, VA, Lynne V. Glancy and her partner Stephanie Maggiore of Bradford, Scott D. Glancy and his wife Chelly of San Luis Obispo, CA, and Kelley A. Creedon and her husband David of Mashpee. Dear sister of the late Norma Liguori, and Donald Shields. Cherished grandmother of Brandon F. Glancy and his wife Teresa of Sun Prairie, WI, Alexandra Brennan and her husband TJ of Richmond, VA, and Nicholas Glancy of Midlothian, VA. Loving great-grandmother of Payton Glancy and Mackenzie Glancy. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives & friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Jeanne's life for her Memorial Service celebrated at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Saturday, May 21 at 10:30am.
