Mr. Jeremiah R. "Jerry" Murphy, of Los Angeles, California, and formerly of Malden, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, at the age of 81.
Born on September 2, 1930 in Boston, Jerry was one of three children of the late Anna T. (Shea) and James A. Murphy.Raised and educated in Malden, he graduated from Malden High School, Class of 1948.He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.After his honorable discharge, Jerry received a degree from the New England College of Pharmacy.He worked in the Boston area at several different pharmacies before moving to California and opening the "Bunker Hill Pharmacy" in Los Angeles.He owned and operated the pharmacy for many years, retiring in 1993.Jerry will be fondly remembered for frequently asserting that pharmacists were among the most trusted professionals in the world.
Jerry was an affable man who made friends easily.He enjoyed the stock market, the Apple brand, and even after moving to California, always followed Boston sports teams.
He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian "Arlene" Carbonetta with whom he shared 35 years.Devoted brother of James E. Murphy, Sr. and his late wife Arlene of Wakefield, and the late Patrick T. Murphy.Loving uncle of Mark M. Murphy and his wife Cheryl of Salem, Colleen A. Murphy and her husband Eric of Melrose, Kerry A. Murphy and her husband Jim of Stoneham, James E. Murphy, Jr. of Wakefield, and Jerry P. Murphy of Mansfield.Caring great uncle of Eric, Alianna, Alec, Kaley, Devin, and Emily.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Jerry's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday from 2-6 PM and again on Monday at 9:00 AM before leaving in procession to Sacred Hearts Church, 315 Main St., Malden where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.Interment with military honors presented by the US Army in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
