Joan L. (Kilgallon) Comeiro, resident of Woburn, and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully at Greenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield. She was 92.
Born on May 4, 1931 in Malden, Joan is the daughter of the late John P. and Doris (Pope) Kilgallon. She grew up in the Maplewood section of Malden. In her early years, she acquired a love of music and dancing. She enjoyed tap dancing and performed in numerous shows, and even performed for the troops during WWII. She also was a member of the Colonial Chorus performing in many musicals.
Family was the most important piece of Joan’s life. She was exceptionally active in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nunnie”. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she took great joy in decorating all the rooms of her house and placing and decorating all six of her Christmas Trees.
Joan loved her country and was proud to be an American. She enjoyed parades, all the patriotic holidays and had deep respect for our soldiers and veterans. Her deep sense of faith and patriotism guided her throughout her life. She was also extremely proud of her heritage. She was related to William Dawes who rode with Paul Revere and was also related to John Adams and John Quincy Adams.
A quintessential lady, Joan was always well dressed, kept her home spotless, always had a kind word, and was the sweetest person you could meet. She enjoyed baking, eating ice cream, swimming in her pool, visits to Maine and the White Mountains locally, and family trips to Florida, Washington DC, and England.
In her later years, Joan worked at Otis Brown Insurance in Lexington as a Home Insurance Writer, retiring after 25 years at the age of 79.
Joan’s love, warmth, and generosity will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joan was the wife of the late John Comeiro and Warren Jackson. Devoted mother of Deborah L. Harding and her husband Ronald of Melrose and Craig Jackson and his wife Lisa of Marblehead. Cherished grandmother of Christopher Harding and his wife Debbie of Melrose and Janelle Gallagher and her husband John of Wakefield. Proud great-grandmother of Andrew and Ashley Harding, and Matthew and Kayla Gallagher.
Private services will be held for Joan. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
