Mrs. Joan M. (Sheehan) Shaw, a long-time resident of Saugus, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.She was 74 years old.
Mrs. Shaw was born July 9, 1933 in Everett, a daughter of the late John J. Sheehan and Mary (Burke) Sheehan.
Joan was raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High School.She worked as a stitcher for Play-moc Shoes and later as Secretary for the Saugus Planning Board.In 1974, she began working as an operator for Teleserve, a telephone answering service company in Saugus.After working there for two years and following the death of her husband, Raymond P. Shaw, Joan started her own telephone answering service company, Melrose Answering Service.She retired in 1983 and the business, now known as Business and Professional Exchange, Inc., is still being run by the Shaw family today.
She was a member of the Lynnhurst Women's Club and was on the Saugus Lynnhurst 4th of July Committee.She was both a Boy and Girl Scout Leader.Joan enjoyed her life with square dancing, quilting, taking trips to Las Vegas, cooking for the Fidelity Lodge in Melrose and spending the summertime with her family in Maine.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Raymond P. Shaw.Devoted mother of Susan Lecouras and her husband Harry of Salem, Raymond P., Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Tewksbury, Steven and his wife Leanne of Lynn, and Robert "Bo" and his wife Dawn, Scott and his wife Lisa, and Michael and his wife Nicole, all of Saugus.Sister of Richard Sheehan and his fianc? Fran MacCuish of Everett and the late John J. Sheehan, Jr. and Robert Sheehan.Cherished grandmother of Marc Lecouras and his wife Gina, Katie, Kara, Jayson, Ashley and Andrew Shaw, all of Saugus.Also survived by many nieces and nephews and her 13 year-old golden retriever, Buddy.
