Mrs. Joanne C. (Calton) Dunnet, of Melrose, died Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. She was 76.
Her husband of 52 years, John Dunnet died October 18, 2005.
Joanne was born on November 19, 1932 in Melrose and was raised by her late aunt, Ada D. Hitchins and was a lifelong Melrose resident.She was a graduate of Melrose High School, class of 1950.
Joanne always recognized the importance and need in giving back to her community. She was an active volunteer in organizations such as The Campfire Girls, Melrose Public School System, The American Red Cross, YMCA and her church, The First United Methodist Church.She always remained positive and valued her relationships with her family and friends. She cared for many in need including family members and residents of local elderly housing and shut-ins.
She is survived by her children, Laurie J. Dunnet & Michael of Melrose and John Dunnet Jr., of Quincy. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Rebecca. Joanne leaves her sister-in-law, Margaret Tressel of Pembroke.
Funeral Service at The First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose, Wednesday, June 17 at 11 AM.The Rev. Charles G. Hartman will officiate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.Visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, Tuesday 4-8 PM.Interment in Wyoming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Melrose Public Library Children's Room, 69 West Emerson Street, Melrose 02176.
