John G. Batson

Mr. John Glover Batson, a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte after a short illness.He was 73 years old.

John was born in Stoneham, MA on May 13, 1941, son of the late Edward R. Batson, Jr. and Catherine (Mackernan) Batson.John was born with spina bifida, but with the help of surgical intervention at the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Springfield, he was able to overcome his handicap and live a happy and productive life.

John was a longtime resident of Melrose, MA and also of Columbia, MD.He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1959, and attended Northeastern University.He worked many years as a field service engineer for General Radio of Concord, MA.

John was a devout Christian and an active church member.He served as a deacon at the Green Street Baptist Church in Melrose, and was a team leader for their Macedonian Ministries Christian Outreach Program.He also served as a deacon in the Columbia Baptist Fellowship in Columbia, MD.

John leaves his wife Caroline (Adair) Batson of Port Charlotte, FL.He also leaves his daughter Rebecca Batson of Hagerstown, MD.He was the brother of the late Judith Clarke of Saugus, MA, Scott M. Batson of Wakefield, MA, Craig W. Batson, Robert S. Batson of Hollis, NH, Bradley E. Batson of Rumney, NH, and Teena L. Young of Port Richie, FL.He also leaves numerous nephews and nieces and cousins.

A Memorial Service was held in his honor at the Green St. Baptist Church, 179 Green St., Melrose, MA. Gifts in John's memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
